Value Based Leadership

Value Based Leadership Part 1 (January 30, 2018 | 9:00am – 3:00pm)

Part 1 provides a general overview of the necessary catalyst to developing a value based system and practicing value based leadership. The catalyst includes the necessary, foundational understanding to be able to authentically engage the practice. This understanding will include developing inclusive environments, developing brave spaces, and understanding positionality as well as exploring critical language used in Value Based Leadership models. The pedagogical practice in the class will be relational and will strongly rely on the narrative methodology. The participant will be able to identify the practice of Value Based Leadership and incorporate initial strategies and techniques into their life spaces, as well as preparing those interested in Part 2.

Value Based Leadership Part 2 (February 6, 2018 | 9:00 – 3:00pm)

Part 2 will build upon the understanding of Value Based Leadership and develop the structures to implement a value baesd system. This includes the necessary precursors to changing systems which include Opportunity, reframing Prgmatism, Awareness, Community, all within the value based leadership methodology. The participant will be able to explain and practice the 101 catalytic practice, the 201 system change precursors, and understand the general structure of a site-specific, value based system.

Participants are encouraged to sign up for both Part 1 & 2, but are strongly advised to attend Part 1, if attending Part 2.

About the trainer:

Guru Dorje emigrated from Nepal to America. The son of Tibetan refugees into Nepal, his life has been filled with change, upheaval and displacement. As an undocumented immigrant and high school dropout, he eventually learned to navigate American bureaucracies such as the public school system, immigration and King County. As a perpetual immigrant, he uses his ‘outsider’ perspective to create new systems where others see intractable permanent structure. This perspective has allowed him to develop and teach methodologies that have successfully been implemented in starting new schools focused on serving students that have dropped out of high school; and developing curriculum, organizational structure and assessments, for other educational and employment programs. This has been honed into a 4-part mode transferrable to structures other than education and employment (as well as those, too), called Value Based Leadership that is being currently taught within King County (and was a basis for all the programming he has done).
